Welcome to The Shipping Database

The Shipping Database (incorporating World Warships) is a research project of Matterson Marine & Maritime Risk Management. The data is reproduced from a variety of sources, including but not limited to shipyards, shipping companies and classification societies as well as our vast research library.

We have incorporated several modifications to the way that data has been displayed over our previous databases; including a clearer layout and additional details on each vessel.

Full explanations of the terms utilised can be found on the terminology page.

We have not limited our database to ocean going or self-propelled vessels; details of barges and inland waterways (especially European) vessels are included as research allows. The news section of this page will be updated as new shipyards, companies or naval forces are researched.

All photographs are digital reproductions sourced from original film or slides held in our collection, original digital images taken by ourselves or images which we have been given the authority to reproduce. No commercial use of any photographs on this site is permitted without prior written agreement.

Whilst every care is taken in the representation of data, users should confirm the veracity of the data before utilising it for their own purposes. No liability is accepted for any third party use of our data.
